Description:

The Australian Government is inviting organisations via a restricted process to apply for funding from 2024–25 to 2029–30 under the Working for Women Program – Research Partnership Grant to build the evidence base for achieving gender equality in Australia, especially in relation to driving economic equality.

The Australian Government funds the Working for Women Program to support implementation of Working for Women: A Strategy for Gender Equality (the Strategy). The Strategy sets out a path to work towards the Government’s vision for gender equality over the next 10 years, with a focus on gender-based violence; unpaid and paid care; economic equality and security; health; and leadership, representation and decision-making. It also outlines the need for everyone to work together to shift the attitudes and stereotypes that drive gender inequality.

The Research Partnership’s activities, developed in close collaboration with the Office for Women and other key government agencies, will provide the evidence to drive change, and target effort under Working for Women to where it has the most relevance for women and/or the highest impact. This includes providing data and actionable insights to support high quality gender analysis as part of gender budgeting.

The Research Partnership’s activities and outputs include:

  • Developing an agile and iterative research agenda, to ensure its activities respond to Government priorities.
  • Carrying out pulse checks for Government to hear directly from the Australian community, particularly women, to provide a snapshot of the current views and concerns of the public as they relate to gender inequality, to better inform and support development of public policy.
  • Reporting actionable insights to identify avenues for action, by the Government and relevant stakeholders, to drive women’s economic equality.
Eligibility:

In line with the Strategy to help drive progress on gender equality through collaboration between Government and researchers, organisations must be one of the following categories of a not-for-profit organisation:

  • research institute or research centre
  • university
  • policy institute or think tank.

The above list of eligible organisation categories has been determined to ensure applicants are equipped with multi-disciplinary and rigorous technical expertise, and experienced in delivering robust national level research activities, and practical insights and policy advice to Government to achieve gender equality.
