Description:

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Australia - Health and Medical Research for Type 1 Diabetes grant opportunity will provide $5 million funding over one (1) year from 2024-25  to facilitate and improve access to new treatments and therapies through clinical trials.

The funding was announced in the 2024-25 Budget as part of $22.1 million over two years (2024-25 to 2025-26) to continue support for preventive health and chronic disease research including patient and clinician services for Australians with chronic conditions. This Budget measure included providing direct research funding to JDRF Australia for 12 months to continue to facilitate clinical trial activities, boost next generation research capacity and deliver, implement and administer the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Clinical Research Network (CRN). Funding through this Budget measure supports the National Preventive Health Strategy 2021–2030 and the Government’s preventive health agenda to reduce pressure on the health and aged care system and ensure all Australians stay well for longer.

The purpose of the grant opportunity is to support investment in health and medical research for T1D to facilitate and improve access to new treatments and therapies through clinical trials and the translation of research for people living with T1D.

Potential grantees are advised that an election for the House of Representatives may be called before this grant process has been concluded. If an election is called and the House of Representatives is dissolved, then caretaker arrangements will apply to the business of Government. By convention, decisions are not taken during this period that would bind an incoming Government and limit its freedom of action. Consequently, potential grantees need to be aware that any grant processes which have not been concluded before the caretaker period, or which commence during the caretaker period, may experience delays in finalisation and could potentially be revised or cancelled.
