Youth Mental Health Research and Suicide Prevention Program
The program will be delivered through two activity streams: the Youth Mental Health Research stream and the Suicide Prevention stream.
The Youth Mental Health Research stream delivers the Longitudinal Adolescent Brain Study, which tracks brain changes in adolescents to better identify markers and predictors of mental illness, as well as identifying factors that impact resilience, psychological distress, cognitive and problem-solving skills, emotion recognition and intelligence, and health enhancing/compromising behaviours. Activities under this stream support the promotion and dissemination of research outcomes to support knowledge translation and clinical application.
The Suicide Prevention stream includes: a clinical trial examining the effectiveness of oral ketamine in treating mental health conditions including PTSD and suicidality; a co-designed digital suicide prevention platform, iHelp; and the Alliance for Suicide Prevention, an evidence-based community suicide prevention program that partners with over 125 local organisations to target depression and suicidal behaviour through training and education.
