Description:

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to support delivery of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup 2026 and was announced as part of the 2024-25 Budget. 

The grant opportunity contributes to the achievement of the program, which aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity, foster excellence in high-performance, support the Australian sport sector, and coordinate Commonwealth involvement in major international sporting events.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup is the oldest international football competition for women and Australia has been granted hosting rights for this event. The 2026 edition will see 12 of the AFC’s best women’s national teams compete in multiple Australian host cities with the winner crowned champions of Asia. 

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

  • establish processes, systems, workforce, governance structures and frameworks that will underpin planning for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026, and
  • support the delivery of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:

  • use the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 as a vehicle to leverage growth opportunities in areas including trade, tourism, health, employment, social and cultural benefits, sporting excellence, and international engagement,
  • enhance Australia’s reputation as a premier host of major international events and a leading destination for sport, tourism, business, and investment, and
  • drive participation, inclusion and gender equality within the sporting and broader Australian community.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, you must be one of the listed organisation/s and have received an invitation to apply from the department.

Football Australia has been awarded hosting rights by the AFC to deliver the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 in Australia. Football Australia has established a Local Organising Committee, a registered Australian business, specifically to deliver the event. 

Local Organising Committee AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Pty Ltd has been invited to apply for this grant opportunity as they are the only organisation with the rights and capability to deliver the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 and deliver on the intended objectives of the grant opportunity.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$15,000,000.00
