The MRFF Coronavirus Research Response – 2021 COVID-19 Health Impacts and Vaccination Schedules Grant Opportunity
The objectives and intended outcomes of this grant opportunity are aligned with the following Australian Medical Research and Innovation Priorities 2020-2022:
- Global Health and Health Security
- Comparative Effectiveness Research.
Consistent with the Medical Research Future Fund Act 2015, the objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support Australian medical research and medical innovation projects that:
- Stream 1: study individuals that have tested positive for COVID-19 to improve understanding of the long term health impacts of COVID-19
- Stream 2: conduct clinical trials to generate evidence on how individuals or populations with immunocompromising conditions respond to COVID-19 vaccination, to inform vaccine schedules
- Stream 3: conduct clinical trials to generate knowledge on the efficacy of vaccine schedules that combine different COVID-19 vaccines.
An application may only be submitted to one stream of this this grant opportunity. Applicants must specify the research stream to which they are applying in the application.
Applications must address the desired outcomes described in section 1.3 of the grant guidelines.
This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in theMedical Research Future Fund (MRFF) – 2021 COVID 19 Health Impacts and Vaccine Schedules Grant Opportunity grant guideline.
$15,000,000.00
Applicants are advised to read the Grant Guidelines thoroughly and liaise with the Administering Institution that will submit the application to identify any specific requirements that the Institution might have.
Applications must be submitted electronically using NHMRC’s online Granting System (Sapphire).
Minimum data closes at 5:00 pm (ACT local time) on 4 August 2021.
Questions should be submitted no later than 1:00 pm (ACT Local Time) on 13 August 2021.
