Description:

The Central Australia Remote Mobile Training Units Grant Opportunity will support the delivery of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in remote Aboriginal communities in Central Australia, through the provision of purpose built and industry standard Mobile Training Units (MTUs). The Grant will enhance the capability of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) in the region to extend the delivery of high quality, industry relevant VET. The Grant will run over 4 years from financial years 2024-25 to 2027-28, and forms part of the delivery objectives of the Remote Training Hubs Network program established under the broader Central Australia Plan.

The Grant is funded by the Remote Training Hubs Network measure, which was announced by the Prime Minister on 13 February 2024, under the Better, Safer Future for Central Australia plan to create training opportunities in up to seven remote community clusters that lead to local, sustainable jobs for people living in Central Australia.

The availability of accredited VET in Central Australia faces several external constraints, including but not limited to the accessibility of communities and the ability to viably and affordably provide compliant simulated work environments that lower the capacity of independent RTOs to manage remote delivery. The Grant activity would ensure that appropriate training is delivered to communities in remote Central Australia.

Up to four MTUs will be funded under the Grant, uniquely tailored to different industries. These industries have been identified based on community consultation, alignment with local labour market vacancies and the outcome of extensive community mapping.

The list includes:

• Conservation and Ecosystem Management

• Hospitality (Cookery)

• Carpentry

• Resource and Infrastructure

The Grant will be administered by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
