Aged Care Nursing Scholarships Program
The program was announced as part of the 2024-25 announcement for continued investments to support, attract and retain the aged care workforce.
The purpose of this grant opportunity is to deliver a scholarship program. Under this program the organisation to deliver the grant will provide 1050 scholarships in a range of nursing study opportunities for aged care workers over three years from 2024-25.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:
- Provide scholarships to those working in aged care in Australia as a registered or enrolled nurse, nurse practitioner, assistant in nursing and personal care worker to undertake study to further develop their careers in aged care;
- Support a range of education opportunities from Certificate level through to Postgraduate qualifications;
- Enhance expertise in areas such as clinical leadership, palliative care, dementia care and infection prevention and control and courses of study considered relevant to aged care workforce settings;
- Collect data in each year of the program.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity include:
- Provision of financial incentives to aged care workers to complete additional qualifications and increase scholar retention rates.
- Improve the capability of aged care workers to provide high quality care to recipients of aged care services;
- Assist with the attraction and retention of aged care sector workforce; and
- Contribute to growth in the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses in aged care and building of capacity to provide culturally safe care services to First Nations people.
