Description:

This grant opportunity will provide funding to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to undertake research and development of battery technologies in cooperation with other Australian and US research institutions to advance domestic battery research and development capabilities, and support Compact ambitions delivered through the Working Group.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • advance Australian battery research and development capabilities and opportunities where Australia can develop a competitive advantage
  • improve Australia’s innovation advantages across battery technologies that can assist with supply chain diversification
  • increase collaborative battery research and development opportunities that contribute to meeting Australia’s domestic manufacturing and net zero ambitions.

The intended outcomes of the program are to:

  • undertake research and development to advance natural graphite anode production
  • identify opportunities for Australia to develop advanced manufacturing and research and development opportunities for battery active materials
  • identify and advance opportunities for the development of domestic high purity foils and cathode active materials (CAM) research and development and manufacturing capabilities
  • build research and industry knowledge exchange and commercialisation opportunities
  • build an open-source model to predict minerals and materials demand and sensitivity to market changes.
Eligibility:

To be eligible for a grant under this program, you must be the following entity:

  • The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, ABN 41 687 119 230.
Grant Activity Timeframe:

The maximum project period for this grant opportunity is 26 months. The project must be completed by 30 June 2026.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$2,000,000.00
