Description:

The Australian Government is inviting applications by an open non-competitive process to deliver justice reinvestment initiatives.

Only community-led, place based initiatives in the Central Australian region of the Northern Territory (as per the Northern Territory Government’s boundaries) are eligible.

  • Assessment cycle 2 is open 10 May to 10 September 2024.

Funding is non-ongoing, and only available from 2024–25 to 2026–27.

The objective of this grant opportunity is to:

  • support the development and delivery of community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led justice reinvestment initiatives in Central Australia, with a specific focus on:

– crime prevention
– the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, and
– diversionary measures relating to the illegal use drugs.

The intended outcomes of this grant opportunity are:

  • to reduce contact with the criminal justice system and incarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults and young people, in line with Closing the Gap Targets 10 and 11.
  • strengthen community supports, treatments and diversionary measures for drug and alcohol use and addiction.
  • a strong and sustainable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled sector delivering high quality services to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Central Australia.

A Resource Hub webpage has been developed to share First Nations peoples ideas, experiences and expertise in designing and implementing justice reinvestment in their communities. Resources include videos about justice reinvestment, templates, quick guides, practical toolkits and case studies.
