National CQR Automation and Innovation Capacity Building Grants
The National Clinical Quality Registry Program (the National CQR Program) aims to improve the quality of health care and ensure better health outcomes for Australian patients. It is also designed to reflect the key priorities of the National Clinical Quality Registry and Virtual Strategy 2020-2030 (the Strategy).
The National CQR Program includes the establishment of a new grant opportunity dedicated to support existing national CQRs to undertake short-term, or ‘catalyst’ projects, that help build their capacity and capability in line with the Strategy.
The purpose of this grant opportunity is to build automation and innovation capacity within existing national CQRs in line with Strategy Pillar 6 (Data linkage, integration and interoperability): Priority 24.
A list of eligible activities for designing and developing new modules is outlined at Section 5.1.
Projects under this grant opportunity should support national CQRs to develop and pilot, contemporary digital solutions and/or technologies to:
- automate data capture from existing systems e.g. via Application Programming Interfaces, Natural Language Processing or other machine learning or data integration technologies; or
- adopt electronic data collection methods e.g. via mobile apps, wearables, smart forms, or other digital capture solutions; or
- streamline data quality processes e.g. methods to improve case ascertainment, data completeness and accuracy, or adoption of national digital health standards, definitions and/terminologies etc; or
- automate CQR reporting e.g. via digital dashboards; interactive data tools; real time reporting, automated reports, etc; or
- apply innovative analytics e.g. predictive modelling, risk or outcome calculators, risk adjustment models, or other methodologies.

- Incorporated Association

Additional eligibility requirements
We can only accept applications from CQRs who are able to demonstrate they are an existing national CQR that:
- monitors health care, treatments, devices or interventions for people with a diagnosed/recognised disease, illness or health condition
- has letter/s of support for the project from lead clinicians and/or the relevant CQR governance body or committee.
