The Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture (IYCC) program aims to improve mental health and social and emotional wellbeing by focussing on the importance of cultural identity and cultural continuity. The IYCC will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to build stronger connections to their culture, families and Elders and in doing so strengthen resilience through identity, self-esteem and connection. It will support Indigenous youth to co-design activities with their Elders, which build leadership skills and promote youth voices. The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

·        Strengthen the cultural identity and pride of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in select communities through place-based cultural activities designed in consultation with their Elders.

·        Strengthen positive connections with Elders, family and community.

·        Increase the wellbeing of community members who participate in cultural activities.

This grant round provides funding to selected organisations to implement activities as outlined in the IYCC Grant Opportunity Guidelines and as identified under their placed based co-designed IYCC community plan. 

Applicants must be invited by the NIAA and meet all eligibility criteria outlined in the Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture Grants Opportunity Guidelines.

Activities funded under the Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture grants program should occur from January 2022 and end by June 2024. If you wish to commence an activity before January 2022, you will need to discuss with your Regional Office.
