Veteran Recognition of Prior Learning – Tertiary Support
The Veteran Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – Tertiary Support grant program (the program) was announced as part of the Veteran Employment Program in the October 2022 Budget under the ‘Veterans’ Wellbeing Package’ (Budget Paper No. 2 2022-23 – Part 2: Veterans’ Wellbeing Package p.190).
The program contributes to the achievements of Program 2.4 Veterans’ Community Care and Support, which includes a range of other grants programs that provide support to veterans and their families such as the Veteran Wellbeing Grants and Grants-in-Aid programs. Program 2.4 also includes the Veteran’ and Families’ Hubs grants, which provide funding to expand the Veterans' and Families’ Hubs network to support more veterans, current serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, reservists, and families across the country based on local needs and opportunities.
The purpose of the program is to support veterans seeking to start in tertiary education by supporting Australian universities to provide several initiatives to enable a smoother transition from ADF service. This assistance will be targeted at Australian universities to adapt and apply existing tertiary credit-mapping frameworks, or to adapt, expand or establish direct or assisted entry, or RPL pathways.
The objectives of the program are to:
- enable a smoother entry to university for veterans who may require additional support to achieve a successful education outcome
- provide support to universities to establish or enhance veteran RPL frameworks and support for veterans pursuing further study within tertiary institutions
- ensure RPL and support for veterans entering study at tertiary institutions are sustained beyond the grant funding period.
