Description:

The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) (this grant opportunity) is a component of the Health Workforce Program which contributes to the department’s Portfolio Budget Statement Outcomes 1: Health Policy, Access, and Support, Program 1.4 Health Workforce. This grant opportunity will enable the continuation of the HWSP to assist in improving access to health services in rural and remote areas of Australia.

This grant opportunity was initially announced as part of the 2015-16 Budget Measure, Streamlining Health Workforce Scholarships, which simplified health workforce scholarships. The HWSP grant combined several smaller programs into one, managed by a single administrator.

The purpose of this grant is to improve access to health services in rural and remote areas by funding training and development for primary health care professionals working in these regions.

Through the HWSP, the Government aims to encourage health professionals to work in areas with skill shortages by offering incentives. These incentives help health professionals meet the changing demand for specific medical services and practices, ensuring that people in rural and remote areas have better access to the health services they need.

Eligibility:

We cannot consider your application if you do not satisfy all the eligibility criteria. We cannot provide a grant if you receive funding from another government source for the same purpose.

To be eligible, you must be one of the listed organisation/s and have received an invitation to apply from the department.

  • Health Workforce Queensland Limited (Acting on behalf of the RWAs) ABN: 81 065 574 996

This organisation has been selected to administer the program on behalf of Rural Workforce Agencies (RWAs) because they have:

  • a proven track record in delivering the program
  • established relationships and networks critical to the success of the program
  • demonstrated the ability to meet activity milestones and deliver outcomes to target workforce groups.
Grant Activity Timeframe:

Potential grantees are advised that an election for the House of Representatives may be called before this grant process has been concluded. If an election is called and the House of Representatives is dissolved, then caretaker arrangements will apply to the business of Government. By convention, decisions are not taken during this period that would bind an incoming Government and limit its freedom of action. Consequently, potential grantees need to be aware that any grant processes which have not been concluded before the caretaker period, or which commence during the caretaker period, may experience delays in finalisation and could potentially be revised or cancelled.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$50,273,000.00
