The purpose of this grant opportunity is to support the delivery of the Netball World Cup 2027 and was announced as part of the 2024-25 Budget.

The grant opportunity is for a total of $6.0 million over four years from 2024-25.

The grant opportunity contributes to the achievement of the Sport and Physical Activity Program, which aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity, foster excellence in high-performance, support the Australian sport sector, and coordinate Commonwealth involvement in major international sporting events.

The Netball World Cup brings together the top 16 women’s teams in the world every four years to showcase netball on the world stage. Sydney has been awarded hosting rights for the 2027 edition and will provide a platform to inspire more Australians to be physically active. The event will also coincide with Netball Australia’s centenary celebrations.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

• establish processes, systems, workforce, governance structures and frameworks that will underpin planning for the Netball World Cup 2027, and
• support the delivery of the Netball World Cup 2027.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:

• use the Netball World Cup 2027 as a vehicle to leverage growth opportunities in areas including trade, tourism, health, employment, social and cultural benefits, sporting excellence, and international engagement,
• enhance Australia’s reputation as a premier host of major international events and a leading destination for sport, tourism, business, and investment, and
• drive participation, inclusion and gender equality within the sporting and broader Australian community.

Netball Australia has been awarded hosting rights by World Netball to deliver the Netball World Cup 2027. Netball Australia has been invited to apply for this grant opportunity as it is the only organisation with the rights and capability to deliver the Netball World Cup 2027 and deliver on the intended objectives of the grant opportunity.
