This ad hoc General Practice Incentive Fund (GPIF) grant opportunity (the grant opportunity) is a single, closed non-competitive opportunity. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to stabilise and strengthen the West Coast of Tasmanian Health Workforce which is at risk of declining health services.
This grant opportunity contributes to the achievement of the Department of Health and Aged Care (the department): Outcome 1.4: Health Policy Access and Support Programs and the Strengthening Medicare and Boosting Supply of Healthcare in Areas of Shortage Budget Measure.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:
- trial a nurse practitioner led multidisciplinary service model for the West Coast of Tasmania that may be adapted to other areas of primary care workforce shortage.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:
- co-design and test a model with local service provider organisations and key stakeholders to implement an integrated and sustainable service delivery model
- improve access to primary health care and support services for the West Coast Tasmanian population
- lead to better health outcomes for West Coast Tasmanians.

This grant opportunity has been established as a one-off or ad hoc grant. The department considers that this is an appropriate type of selection process considering: there is urgent need associated with the provision of services to strengthen the West Coast of Tasmania health workforce. If their application is successful, this grant opportunity will engage the Tasmanian Primary Health Network (PHN), to co-design a nurse practitioner led multidisciplinary service model, with services to be commissioned through Cygnet Family Practice Pty Ltd.
