Description:

The Ear Health Training program (the program) will run over two years from 2024-25 to 2025-26.

The objectives of the program are:

  • deliver nationally accredited training to primary health care professionals who provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to develop their skills, knowledge and competency to provide ear and hearing health services, including for young children; and
  • deliver training across Australia in locations close to the workplaces of primary health care professionals, including for those working in rural and remote communities.

The intended outcomes of the program are:

  • primary health care professionals across Australia have access to accredited training that enables them to identify, treat and/or refer for ongoing treatment, otitis media and/or related hearing loss in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including young children; and
  • increased capacity within primary health care to identify, manage and monitor ear health, and raise awareness to prevent otitis media, in accordance with clinical care guidelines on the management of otitis media in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.

We administer the program according to the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs).

Eligibility:

To be eligible, you must be a listed organisation and have received an invitation to apply from the department.

  • Technical and Further Education Commission (trading as TAFE NSW),

ABN: 89 755 348 137

The listed eligible organisation was determined by their previous experience in program delivery which was deemed by the department as satisfactory. TAFE NSW has built momentum in delivering the EarTrain workshops nationally and has adapted its model of training in relation to feedback from participants. They have the experience and capability to deliver and meet the grant objectives and outcomes.

By continuing to work with TAFE NSW to deliver this program, there will continue to be a greater level of engagement with participants and other stakeholders in the program. TAFE NSW in the past 3 years has established networks across the country and currently would be the only organisation capable of continuing to roll out training at its current pace. The eligible organisation has also demonstrated value for money in delivering outcomes in the current market.
