Description:

This grant opportunity will contribute to the achievement of the Department of Health and Aged Care’s (the department) Portfolio Budget Statement Outcome 1: Health Policy, Access and Support.

Specifically, this grant opportunity will contribute to the Australian Government’s implementation of mental health reforms. Under Program 1.2: Mental Health, the department is committed to supporting Australians with, or at risk of, mental illness by improving service integration for a more effective and efficient mental health system.

There are three funding streams available under this grant opportunity:

Stream 1 - Wait Time Reduction: the purpose of this stream is to address demand and wait list management at headspace services identified as highest need.

Stream 2 – Building Cultural Capability: the purpose of this stream is to build the cultural capability of headspace services. Building cultural capability will help to improve access and provide better support for young people from priority groups including but not limited to those from First Nations, LGBTIQA+ and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

Stream 3 - Capital Enhancement and Infrastructure: the purpose of this stream is to enhance the quality of service, improve access to services and support headspace services by appropriately accommodating current and future staffing needs at headspace sites identified as highest need.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply you must be one of the Primary Health Networks (PHNs) listed in the Grant Opportunity Guidelines.

PHNs are invited to apply for this grant opportunity as they have been assessed to have:

  • capability to deliver the project activities in the project location;
  • existing infrastructure and relationships to support the project activities; and
  • existing knowledge of and capability to deliver the project objectives and outcomes.

PHNs utilise consortia arrangements, local knowledge and linkages with other services in commissioning lead agencies to operate headspace services in their catchment region. The most effective method of delivering activities of this nature is to utilise the existing skills and knowledge of PHNs. This approach has been determined to provide the best value for money.
