Strengthening Medicare – General Practice (GP) Grants Program – Primary Health Network (PHN)
Under the Strengthening Medicare – General Practice (GP) Grants Program (the Program), Medicare Practices and eligible Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services will be able to apply for grants of up to $50,000 (based on practice size), to make improvements to their practices to provide safe and better quality care, and see more patients. The grants to the practices are expected to commence from early 2023.
The purpose of this grant opportunity is to provide funding to PHNs to administer and manage the Program on behalf of the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care, including making grant payments to eligible practices under the Program. PHNs will undertake activities required to administer and manage the grant payments to practices, including opening a grant opportunity to eligible practices within their region and providing grants to eligible practices based on practice size and the specified investment streams.
Practices will be eligible for one-off grants to invest in innovation, training, equipment, and minor capital works to support practices to achieve the following objectives:
- enhance digital health capability to fast-track the benefits of a more connected healthcare system in readiness to meet future standards;
- upgrade infection prevention and control arrangements to ensure infectious respiratory disease patients can be safely seen face to face; and/or
- maintain and/or achieve accreditation against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Standards for General Practice under the General Practice Accreditation Scheme – to promote quality and safety in general practice.
