A TCR is a one-time solicitation for grant applications to address a specific health issue and stimulate research into areas of national importance where there is a significant knowledge gap. A TCR specifies the scope and objectives of the research to be proposed, application requirements and procedures, and the review criteria to be applied in the evaluation of applications submitted in response to the TCR.
The purpose of the TCR: Improving physical health of people with a mental illness grant opportunity is to stimulate research that develops effective strategies and interventions to improve the physical health of people with a severe or persistent mental illness.
The outcomes of the research aims to assist in developing effective health services, policies, and examples of successful collaboration to guide and train providers to better manage coexisting mental and physical health conditions. Thus, reducing risk factors and avoidable hospitalisations and improving the health and life expectancy of people living with a mental illness.
Applications will only be accepted from NHMRC approved Administering Institutions. A list of NHMRC approved Administering Institutions is available at:

Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in the Targeted Call for Research: Improving physical health of people with a mental illness 2022 Grant Guidelines.
