Description:

This grant opportunity will provide funding for the support and expansion of the Hand-n-Hand program (the Program) to provide peer support to the healthcare workforce, including but not limited to doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, paramedics, healthcare students and non-clinical staff from volunteers in a similar field and level.

The Program supports the mental health of the healthcare workforce by providing emotional and wellbeing assistance to the healthcare workforce where the peer support facilitator and participant can connect through lived experiences.

The Program aims to reduce occupational burnout, increase productivity, and improve recruitment and retention, further supporting workers to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

  • train additional healthcare workforce professionals in peer support;
  • provide more healthcare workforce professionals with access to peer support from volunteers in a similar field and level; and
  • formalise and expand the Program’s services through greater sector engagement and communication as well as increase partnerships with universities, health schools and services, and health professional organisations.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:

  • increase access and uptake of peer support within the healthcare workforce;
  • increase retention and reduce the prevalence of mental health impacts such as burnout among the healthcare workforce; and
  • improve the overall mental health and wellbeing of the healthcare workforce across Australia.
