Expansion of the Eating Disorder Credential to include GPs offering a diagnostic and treatment management service
Expanding the Eating Disorder Credential, to include GPs, will allow Australians to easily and confidently identify credentialled GPs, alongside other health professionals. Credentialed GPs will have the training and resources at hand to be able to confidently diagnose and coordinate the treatment of someone with an eating disorder. This extension to the Eating Disorder Credential will allow for people with an eating disorder to confidently seek early diagnosis and intervention in the primary care setting.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are:
- Continued operation of the Eating Disorder Credential.
- Expand the Eating Disorder Credential to include GPs as a core component of the diagnosis and early intervention stage of the NEDC Stepped System of Care.
- Ensure Australians seeking an eating disorder diagnosis can easily identify credentialled GPs, as well as other credentialled health professionals.
- Continued provision of details of credentialled mental health professionals, GPs and dietitians to Services Australia.
- Conduct an evaluation of the effectiveness of the Eating Disorder Credential for mental health professionals, GPs, dietitians, and consumers.
- Operation of a secure and stable connect·ed - ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential website.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are:
- Promote ongoing communications and awareness of the Eating Disorder Credential.
- Ensure people seeking an eating disorder diagnosis can confidently and easily identify appropriately qualified and resourced GPs and other health professionals.
- Achieve strong uptake of the Eating Disorder Credential from GPs by the end of the life of the grant.
- Maintain strong uptake of mental health professionals and dieticians during the life of the grant.
