Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Roses in the Ocean Peer CARE Connect warmline Grant Opportunity Guidelines
Suicide prevention is a key priority of the Australian Government. In response to the Productivity Commission’s Final Inquiry Report on Mental Health and the National Suicide Prevention Adviser’s report, the Government is investing $298.1 million into suicide prevention to increase opportunities for people to get support sooner before they reach crisis point.
This grant is intended to support the Peer CARE Connect warmline service, delivered by Roses in the Ocean, over two years from 2022-23 to 2023-24. Peer CARE Connect warmline utilises an Australia-wide lived experience of suicide volunteer workforce, designed to complement the emerging specialist and formal suicide prevention peer workforce. The ‘warmline’ is a suicide prevention call-back service providing a safe place for people with lived experience of suicide to connect with others with a similar lived experience of suicide. The service uses a framework of Connection, Acceptance, Respect and Empathy (CARE) and highlights how emotional support is a key part of personal recovery, which can come from a range of sources, including peer support.
The Peer CARE Connect warmline service was publicly launched in June 2021. This grant opportunity will support the increased capacity of the warmline.
