Funding to meet unmet aged care needs for older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Alice Springs
The purpose of this grant opportunity is to ensure essential aged care services continue to be delivered to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in and around Alice Springs in the Northern Territory (NT) by funding Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation (Purple House) to deliver aged care services to an estimated 200 older First Nations people requiring care whilst receiving dialysis treatment. This will address an urgent need for aged care services for vulnerable older First Nations people, as well as delivering culturally safe aged care services in response to a demonstrated supply gap in Alice Springs.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:
• provide funding to Purple House to deliver culturally safe aged care services under the NATSIFAC Program to meet the needs of older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in and around Alice Springs.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:
• ensure Purple House can continue to deliver essential, culturally safe aged care services to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without interruption;
• to ensure continued access and delivery of high quality, culturally safe aged care to vulnerable older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in and around Alice Springs.

The eligible applicant was determined based on their existing relationships with vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in an area of demonstrable unmet need and their readiness to deliver culturally safe aged care services. The eligible organisation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations with extensive experience in the delivery of a range of aged care and support services under the NATSIFAC Program, and providing primary health services, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The organisation, Purple House is currently delivering culturally safe pre-entry/entry level aged care services to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in locations where there is unmet need, there is a demonstrated supply shortage in Alice Springs, which is determined as a thin market area
