The 2024 Strategic Policy Grants Program (SPGP) aims to deepen public debates relevant to Australia’s strategic circumstances, strengthen Australia’s defence partnerships, and inform Defence’s strategic policy advice by supporting independent activities focused on Defence’s purpose, mission, and priorities.

The 2024 SPGP is global in scope. Individuals must apply for the 2024 SPGP on behalf of an organisation, for example, a university or think tank, which holds an Australian Business Number or international equivalent.

If individuals working for more than one organisation (such as different universities or think tanks) wish to deliver a project collaboratively through the 2024 SPGP, they must appoint a lead organisation to submit one application form on behalf of the consortium.
