Purpose:
This project will employ local Aboriginal people to: manage Asset Protection Zones on forested Aboriginal land to protect seven nearby Bega Valley settlements; repair and develop Aboriginal community farmland, ready for future horticulture enterprise; repair and maintain access roads, internal tracks and fence lines for safe access to 11 Aboriginal community-owned rural properties; replace hired machinery contractors to construct fire control lines and access trails in forested Aboriginal land to prepare sites for planned cultural burns. The project will also purchase a compact tractor and associated implements to carry out the work; four local Aboriginal team members to complete nationally accredited training to operate and maintain the machinery and prepare them to compete for agency contract work.
