Bushfire Recovery for Species and Landscapes
Grant Activity:
Tracking post-fire recovery in criticalGrey-headed Flying-fox habitat
Purpose:
Two extensive areas of winter-spring habitat critical to the survival of Grey-headed Flying-foxes were affected by the 2019-2020 bushfires. Project1 will develop a method for quantifying flowers and establish a field program designed to track flower recovery stratified for fire severity in 5 key diet species. Project2 will create online, open-access archives of restoration projects that repair or replace critical habitat in NE NSW and SEQ. Data sourced through an existing network of restoration practitioners will generate a database describing work sites, work undertaken and outcomes, recorded using set criteria and standard format. Results of each project will benefit other nectar-dependent fauna and be transferable to different habitats.
