Purpose:
The Macintyre River bisects the town of Inverell, with residents in the South Inverell neighbourhood (480 residences) connecting to the CBD via a foot bridge over the river. The current structure is in a poor state of repair and due to its low level, there have been more than 12 instances in the past 12 months where the bridge has been impassable due to elevated flows in the river. This project will overcome this by raising the foot bridge by 1 metre, widening the bridge to facilitate improved accessibility. The shared path approaches to the footbridge will also be widened to 2 metres. An additional riverside path will also be installed at a second site in Inverell to connect May Street Lookout with the Inverell Suspension Bridge.
