Grant Activity:
The effects of early exposure to bushfires on adult brain structure and function
Purpose:
The effects of bushfire smoke inhalation on brain structure and function remain unknown. We will conduct the first systematic study of this issue, based on a cohort of monkeys born during the 2019-2020 bushfire season. The effects of pre- and post-natal bushfire exposure will be investigated in adult brain, using functional and structural MRI, cognitive tests, and neuropathological examination. This project will gain vital scientific data that may help guide future government action.
