Bushfire Recovery for Species and Landscapes
Grant Activity:
Improving the feed base for rescued andrehabilitating koalas
Purpose:
This project addresses the challenge of providing sufficient palatable food to rescued koalas. First, we will replicate Eucalyptus leaves' physical, nutritional, and sensory characteristics in a nutritionally-complete artificial koala food and assess . Second, we will expand our analytical capacity to rapidly and accurately identify palatable and unpalatable individual trees in established koala food plantations Third, we will also develop an inexpensive attachment and app for mobile devices for koala carers, enabling screening of leaf palatability in the field.
