Grant Activity:
Harnessing the regenerative potential of the newborn heart.
Purpose:
Heart failure is a massive and growing public health problem affecting over 25 million people worldwide. In contrast to the extremely limited regenerative capacity of the adult heart, we have discovered that the newborn mammalian heart retains a robust capacity for regeneration for a short period after birth. This Investigator Grant seeks to unlock the regenerative potential of the newborn heart for cardiac repair in children and adults with heart failure.
