Purpose:
Using traditional cultural knowledge & practice with contemporary land management approaches, this project encourages participation & leadership from Traditional Owners & First Nations peoples of Southwest Sydney (SWS), to continue & reclaim Caring for Country skills to protect & care for Koalas, including using cultural fire. As stage 1 of a longer-term (10yr) goal, the aim is to improve the extent & quality of Koala Country by restoring health & balance to several connective corridor sites in SWS. Through a multidisciplinary cross agency / land management partnership, activities will be co-designed by First Nations Elders and Knowledge Holders, seeking to build capacity & confidence in local First Nations peoples in conserving Koalas.
