Gumbayngirr Youth - Koala Habitat Restoration
Purpose:
Clarence Landcare will work with the Gumbayngirr Koala Junior Ranger Team' to rehabilitate koala habitat on 17 ha of school grounds. The team will meet monthly to increase their knowledge of koalas and plan how the koala events will be delivered. Awareness of the South Grafton hill koala population will be raised through two school events and two events aimed at urban fringe neighbours. Local Gumbayngirr cultural connection with the koala will be interwoven throughout the project, such as a cultural burn to assist in habitat repair, a Koala dance by the student dance troupe, and the Two Koala Brothers songline. Adjoining rural and residential landholders will be engaged to plan improved koala habitat & connectivity.
