The Government is investing $707 million into the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program, which will initially create 3,000 jobs over the next three years.
The RJED program is being developed in partnership with First Nations people and will provide jobseekers in remote communities with meaningful jobs with fair pay and conditions.
The NIAA proposes to run a competitive grant process for potential employers across all Community Development Program (CDP) regions.
Eligible employers will be able to apply for a grant to help create new jobs, including access to the Community Jobs and Business Fund (CJBF). The CJBF will cover some equipment and capital work costs to support the creation of these new jobs.
Successful applicants will receive grant funding for wages at the relevant award wage (or the National Minimum Wage where no award applies), plus superannuation and leave to employ CDP participants and those eligible for CDP.
Jobs proposed under the RJED program will need to support community priorities and be a new position that cannot be supported through other government funding.
Draft Grant Opportunity Guidelines for this opportunity are available on the NIAA website for public consultation until 31 July 2024.
You can email your feedback to remote.jobs@niaa.gov.au. Responses provided will inform the final GOGs - expected to be released in September 2024.
